My Favorite Skin Care Products

I have struggled with adult acne for several years now and have tried every single product out there to get it under control. Nothing worked for me until I started using the Clinique Acne Solutions line – along with changing my diet and having a microneedling procedure done.  When my breakouts were at their worst, I was extremely self-conscious and embarrassed to even leave my house. No amount of makeup could cover up the blemishes and, of course, that just made it worse anyway.

Last summer just before I went on vacation with my family, I decided to try yet another product to get my skin under control before we left. I was surprised to see results right away as my skin started clearing up within just a couple of days. Prior to starting the Clinique line I had already scheduled an appointment with the Dermatologist, so when we got back from vacation I went to my appointment where the Doctor gave me a new line to try. As soon as I switched and starting using that line, my skin went haywire again. I went back to the dermatologist for a microneedling procedure {click the link to learn more} and went right back to using my Clinique products and saw immediate results a second time. Needless to say, I will NOT be switching products again.

I am crazy about the Liquid Facial Soap. It is specifically an oily skin formula that gently cleanses your skin without leaving it feeling taut or dry. It also has a natural coolant in it that I love.

The Clarifying Lotion is the BEST toner I have ever used. You shake the bottle up before each use to dissolve the powder at the bottom and then swipe all over your face with a cotton pad. It’s gentle formula that cleanses and exfoliates, making your skin bright and healthy.

The Moisture Surge – Extended Thirst Relief has been a lifesaver on my skin, especially during these winter months. I use it twice day, morning and night. I have combination skin type, so although it is frequently oily, it is important to moisturize so that your skin doesn’t create more oil. The moisturizer is extremely lightweight too!

I swear, once I turned 30 I noticed all kinds of other flaws about my skin, including puffy morning eyes and dark circles. I received this roll on de-puffing and dark circle serum as a gift with purchase and it is AMAZING. I use it morning and night and notice a difference right after rolling it on. Especially after a long night of tossing and turning thinking about this blog – LOL! It is pricey, but SO worth it.

I don’t like to wear a ton of makeup, so this Beyond Perfecting Powder is perfect for me {pun intended} because it has the ultimate coverage without having to use a lot. I just sweep it all over my face with a round brush and use the sponge for any extra coverage needed. I recommend getting color matched by a beauty rep so you know what color to purchase.

When I went to the dermatologist I was surprised to learn that we should be wearing sunscreen everyday, even in the winter months and when the sun isn’t out. My Doctor asserted that our skin is always exposed to the sun, even when we can’t see it. To protect my skin, I was given a facial sunscreen that I use every morning with my normal moisturizer. It’s gentle on my skin and is a non-oily formula. The brand I use is Skin Medica, but you can purchase a non-oily formula from your local drugstore. Neutrogena carries a great line of skin care products if you can’t get to the Dermatologist.

And lastly, that crazy ItWorks stuff. Yah, yah, I’ve heard all about how this stuff doesn’t really work – but let me tell ya something – IT DOES! I hesitantly tried it to support my friend who sells it and I noticed big time changes in my skin right away. My skin was clearer and healthier just after a couple of weeks. When I went to the Dermatologist, my doctor recommended that I that try Accutane in conjunction with the microneedling treatments. Red flags went up as soon as he mentioned that I would need to sign a bunch of releases, agree to use a form of birth control to prevent pregnancy and undergo two rounds of lab work to test my liver enzymes to make sure the medicine wasn’t doing any damage. No thank you. I have had my share of health scares so I wasn’t about to intentionally put my body through any more than it already has. My friend Liz is an ItWorks distributor and consultant – see her link below to shop with her!

Everyone has different skin, so it is important to consult with your Dermatologist if you have problem skin. I wish I had done this sooner because it would have saved me years worth of insecurities. I think that a lot of the cystic acne I had was hormonal and a result of my diet. I cut out a majority of my sugar intake and started eating a lot healthier, which has also contributed to having clearer skin. Stay tuned for a more detailed post on my experience at the dermatologist!

Note: I purchased most of my products at my local Bon Ton, but many of these items are cheaper through Amazon.
