My Budget Friendly Christmas Table

Christmas is without a doubt my favorite season of the year, so you can imagine that I get a little buck wild with holiday décor. I have expensive taste but don’t have the budget for all of my pottery barn finds, so I look for décor deals that won’t break the bank. Besides, who wants to spend a ton of money on dishware and table décor that is only seen for a few weeks (or more like 2 months if you’re like me!).

First, let me start but saying that my house is NOT set up the way I’d like it to be. My rather large credenza now sits in our already tight spaced dining room as our Christmas tree has taken it’s home in the living room. My best friend told me to wrap it in saran wrap and put it out on our deck until the tree came down (LOL) but I don’t have the patience for that. So here it sits. Second, you’ll have to excuse my paint splattered dinning room table. We are a crafting family and we’re a little messy.

We don’t host a large gathering for Christmas. In fact, we usually spend it with my in-laws, but Christmas looks a little different for us this year. Because my husband will likely be working Christmas day, I am just going to host a small dinner with my Dad and my little one. So although I don’t have a large number of people to entertain, I still enjoy displaying a beautiful presentation at the dinner table. Besides, I know my Dad will appreciate it because that was one of his favorite things to do when hosting dinner at our house growing up.

So here’s the deets on what you see here

I had been eyeing this seasonal dish set at Walmart since before Thanksgiving, but I couldn’t justify buying, nor decorating, for Christmas at the time. I finally took the plunge after Thanksgiving dinner while Black Friday shopping though, ha! I bought my dishware as separate pieces in store, but it can be purchased as a set online. I love that they can be used all season long, even when Christmas is over.

Seasonal Dish Set // Red Fabric Napkins // Seasonal Ribbon // Mackenzie Child’s Charger Plate // Similar Greenery Boxes // Greenery

I should point out that the Mackenzie Child’s charger plates were not actually purchased retail. They are just regular old charger plates that were painted by one of the original MC painters. I love them because of the price tag but also because they were hand painted and each so unique. My kitchen, dinning room and living room are accented in pieces from their Courtly Check and Flower Market enamelware line, but all pieces were purchased at a heavy discount at their barn sale in Aurora, NY. The chargers can be used all year long with any coordinating dishware.

My centerpiece is another piece that can be used interchangeably with the different seasons and holidays. I bought this entire piece, greenery and all, from a friend after her wedding. They looked so beautiful as her table centerpieces and after she posted them for sale, I knew I had to have one for my house. I just popped some plastic cranberry’s in the center to match the rest of the table décor, and voila! I added a link for you to search Etsy for your own rustic, wooden box as well as a link for the greenery. These can be found just about anywhere though, including Walmart in their craft section. Or, if you’re crafty, you could even make your own!

And finally, another small touch I added was a rolled fabric napkin with ribbon tied around it. You certainly don’t have to go all out to dress your table up. I added very small touches to mine because I like to keep it simple but if  you’re going for a more over the top look, you could add a table runner, tall candle sticks, decorative Christmas trees and/or more greenery like pine and pine cones in the center of your table.

I hope you all enjoy this holiday season with your families. Try to stay mindful of what the season is all about and don’t stress about the small stuff. So often, we get wrapped up in perfecting, buying and running around that we forget to enjoy what’s right in front of us – myself included.

Cheers friends!
