A Valentine’s Day Gift From the Heart

Valentine’s Day isn’t a largely celebrated holiday in our house, but I do like to give my husband and daughter sweet little gifts that I know they will love. So no dozen roses or big boxes of candy that costs more than my internet bill {although I will always gladly accept a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups}. Every year, Justin makes me the cutest cards with a heartfelt note inside and I can almost always expect my favorite Chapstick and other useful gifts that he knows I will appreciate.

I like to get a little creative with my gifts with hopes that my special people will cherish them for years to come. I guess you could say I am a bit of a sap! A couple of years ago I made both Addie and Justin a jar filled with sweet little notes about why I love them and what my favorite things are about them. Every once in awhile I will find Addie going through her jar to read some of the notes. This year I plan to add a few more for them to put in their jars. It is such a struggle to find the perfect gift for the special people in our lives so I thought I would share this simple gift idea. I believe that there is nothing more important in this life than love, so why not tell that special person in your life how much they mean to you!

Here are some note writing prompts for you:

You certainly don’t have to go into detail with your responses, just write from your heart! I think that we get so caught up in our day to day lives and we forget to tell our husbands and kids that we love them – and why we love them. And because life is so chaotic at times, a simple I love you isn’t always enough. We have to put substance behind that statement once in awhile.

You don’t have to put your notes in a jar, you could even write them in a blank book and add your own illustrations or just write them in a card. Because if you’re anything like me, you save every single card that you and your family receive from every occasion – because you know – you might want to go back and look at them again one day {LOL}. And if you really don’t have the energy to do any of this, you could just purchase something that has the same idea.
